I Hold My Own
I have lived my life,
As an open book for all to read,
Every page is there for you to see.
Nobody really knows the truth though,
All that is hidden in between the pages,
Of a novel that is truly unwritten.
Today I hold my own no matter what,
Even in the midst of liars I will stand.
When Judas kisses me on the cheek,
Then comes on strong and judges me,
And throws me into the lion’s den,
Where you throw your words at me.
Do I not have the right to respond?
I will respond to all that would challenge,
When they call into question my ideology.
Can you defend your position right now?
Without referring to a dictionary,
Or to some comparison in an analogy,
One that makes no sense but to you!
So I will stand my ground as I have before,
Learning from the life that I alone have lived.
If you think that you can teach me a thing or two,
At this point I hold my own.
